Onion Chutney

Ingredients

2 big White Onions
6 green Chillies
1/8 cup grated Coconut
2 tsp Coriander seeds
1 tsp of Cumin seeds
1 tsp Tamarind pulp
2 Tbsp Oil
For seasoning:
1 Tbsp Urud dal
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp cumin seeds.

Cooking Method

  1. Cut onions into small pieces.
  2. Fry these onions in oil.
  3. Add coriander seeds, cumin seeds and green chillies when the onions are transparent.
  4. Fry for 2 minutes.
  5. When it cools, grind it in a mixie.
  6. Add grated coconut and tamarind pulp and grind again.
  7. In hot oil, add mustard and cumin seeds.
  8. When they pop, add urud dal.
  9. Add this to the grounded paste.

Tips

  • If you are not sure how many chillies you should add, fry more than you need in oil. While grinding add only few. Add the rest after you taste the paste and then grind it again.
  • For easy grinding of chillies, cut them into small pieces.

Serving Ideas

This Chutney can be served with rice, dosa and idli.
