Who Is a Doctor?Medicine is a science, which, in its true essence deals with the disease in the human both from the physical and psychological aspect; because human is a being consisting of a complex body and soul; the well being and illness of each having a direct effect on the other; and a healthy person is one who is both physically and mentally healthy. A person can be truly called a doctor and heal the sick who is both the doctor of the body as well as the soul; in other words a psychoanalyst. For example, sorrow, distance and the loss of a loved one can act as an anorectic. A doctor who is unaware of the effect of the psyche on the biophysical activities of the body can miss this as a cause in the line of treatment and hence fail in treating the patient correctly, i.e., give a purgative or a locative instead of psychotherapy. Anxiety, tension, apprehension are mental disturbances that can lead to insomnia. The doctor, by giving an anxiolytic and hypnotic agent; will obviously not be curing the ailment. Holistic ApproachIn a majority of cases, physiological illnesses lead to psychological problems; e.g. high fever causing delerium and delusions; and likewise a psychologist unaware of medicine will be giving psychotherapy for long hours and missing the physical condition which has led to hallucinations. Hence, medicine in its true meaning refers to the knowledge that encircles the body and soul of a human being as a unit and only the true messengers of god can be bestowed with this true healing power. Dr.Alexes Carl, in his book: 'How to live or Way of life' quotes: "In the past, a few family doctors who had general knowledge clubbed with nobility, carried out the task of guiding the people physically and spiritually, but today the Doctor has turned into a merchant doing business." Now-a-days an ENT specialist or cardiologist will fail to give any patient spiritual guidance if the patient has any psychological or social problems; and the doctors who do not consider all dimensions of a human being in the treatment, rarely give useful curative treatment and often give harmful treatment. To teach how to live in its true meaning to the people we need guidance from a mighty being who knows the requirements of the century. Science of medicine, a wise philosopher and a spiritual soul, all rolled into one. In other words, a pious person who has a matured experience of life, and well read in all aspects of the worldly human science is worthy of teaching and preaching the path to humanity. Constitutional PressuresUnfortunately, no consideration is given to their spiritual and higher aspects of the human being. The laws and regulations devised in a constitution of a country for the betterment of its people lacks a moral and spiritually divine dimension, hence devoid of the true humanitarian essence. Preventions and precautions are superficial and only in aspects that attract vision and hearing and not thoughts and ideas. In matrimonial matters, the blood of the girl and boy is cross matched for any incompatibilities but their beliefs and morals are not put to test. The incorrect law of conduct (e.g. immoral freedom and threats) utilities all the means to ignite passion and sexual desires of a human being, some public theatres and cinemas get youngsters ready for sexual conducts by what they show on screen and on the other hand the means for a correct legal marriage is not within the reach of all. The law forbids a young man to get legally married before the age of 18. Which would restore his bodily needs and moral behaviour, on the other hand it leaves all doors open to immoral means of extinguishing the outburst of sexual hormones and offers sections of the city known as "Red Light Areas" for this purpose, which are the root for STDs and the killer disease AIDS, all leading to destruction of the sacred social unit - FAMILY. For treating STDs like Syphilis and Gonorrhoea, there are plenty of trained specialists but the root - adultery - is promoted and advertised. Humans have always been in state of extremes, at some eras they reach the heights of divine spirituality and ascend above all worldly and human desires and there have been times like the present century that the main focus is only to satisfy sexual and material desires as if the only purpose of human existence and creation. When he comes out of his physical shell, he turns from an element into a living creature and from a human into a divine holy angel and above and at times as like recent times human beings reverse the path and turns towards the animal in them. Health and Well-beingThis world has plenty of resources and a lot of happiness to offer. At the same time, famines, disasters and sorrow is so much more. The creature that has taken shelter on earth under the sky which continuously showers mishaps on him, on the planet which sucks one to its destructive valleys. A moment of negligence may cost one irreparable and incompensatable eternal losses. The energy we utilise to combat difficulties and obstacles of life can be under a subtitle of a cluster of conditions prevailing to cultures and heritage the sum of which is known as "The science of Health and well being." Nevertheless, we have to admit that this science as is the case with others though existing since thousands of years is still in the preliminary stages and very incomplete. Today, health is focussed on prevention of diseases and combating different Microbes. It is defined as : "Health is prevention of communicable diseases that rapidly spreads between the occupants of a country, town, city or country." This mistake in defining is because of the misnomer of Microbe or causative agent being referred to as the disease itself. In the Religion of Islam, Health (Religious Medicine) has a vast and more generalized meaning which encircles prevention of diseases and combat with their causative agents as sub headings. In Hinduism, Ayurveda, the science of life, is more than a system of medical treatment - it is part of a system where dietetics, physical exercise, positive thought, fresh air, sunlight etc., complement each other and lay down rules for living in harmony with nature. Thus, we observe that traditional medicines in Asian cultures are both preventive measures and healing processes that rely entirely on natural means - and as such there is little distinction between foods and medicinal herbs. |
